#3: queries and resources [not so much a rule but I needed a #3 :)]

Not going to bore you with details, but be aware that once you use keywords/priorities/etc. queries are /really/ powerful, as are custom reports.
Plug for myself: I am your bug bitch. Especially for core GNOME2 components, if you have a question/request/problem about how to make bugzilla more useful for your project and by extension GNOME.
