The Project Leader manages the project and defines its vision. (S)he should talk to other SME Server developers, especially to the delegates, to see how (s)he can assist their work. A main task of the SME Server Community Leader therefore involves coordination and communication.

Appointment
  • Elected by all registered members. This would give the greater community a voice in the SME Server Project. Since all technical decisions are made by the Technical Committee (see below) which is composed only of the active developers there should be no concern that the non-developers will have a over-powering impact on the project.
  • Term is one year
  • Delegates (appoints) a Community Secretary.
  • Makes decisions that can not wait for additional input from members.
  • Nine weeks before the leadership post becomes vacant, the Community Secretary initiates a new election. During the first three weeks, any current SME Server Developer (listed on the Developers list) can become a candidate for this post by nominating themselves. The next three weeks are used for campaigning. Each candidate posts their platforms and everyone can direct questions to one or all candidates. The last three weeks consist of the polling period during which developers and commuity members may cast their votes.
Tasks performed by the Community Leader
